Course Description

This course aims to provide an introduction to the principles of modern cell and molecular biology, and build a foundation for students to initiate and develop the process of inquiry-based learning and discovery in biology and medical sciences. The course discusses fundamental molecular biology of the cell, current molecular genetic techniques, cell structure and function, and signal transduction pathways.

Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO)

CILO-1: Describe the basic cell and molecular biology concepts and techniques. CILO-2: Describe critical elements of a cell and be able to explain the role of each element. CILO-3: Critically read and interpret data from primary research articles. CILO-4: Identify the general tools and reagents used in molecular biology. CILO-5: Design a general strategy for identifying a gene of interest using recombinant deoxyribose nucleic acid (DNA) techniques.
